Winter 2024-25 has been wet and cool, which is generally welcome. The
swollen Adobe Creek was visited by the fewer animals than usual,
but with a notable appearance by a redtail hawk enjoying a bath. Two
photos and a video:
A daylight photo and video of a young bobcat on the hillside forest trail.
Blacktail deer are plentiful as usual and healthy-looking.
Gray squirrel with an acorn it dug up (they fell off the trees several months ago). Photo and video:
Group of three blacktail deer, likely a doe and her two yearling fawns, in the bay laurel grove on the upper mountain at twilight.
Coyote in the same grove. Photo and video.
No feral hogs were photographed this month, although we did see their
sign on the upper mountain.
Also, no mountain lions, which were last seen here in September 2024.
